Fourth of July Delivery Update and Abundant Harvests on the Farm

Posted on June 30th, 2023 by Lynne Schultz

Dear valued CSA members,

We hope this email finds you well and filled with anticipation for the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations. We have some important updates regarding our delivery schedule and the exciting produce available for your holiday feasts.

Firstly, please note that this year, July 4th falls on a Tuesday, which is our regular delivery day. If you happen to be out of town during this time, we kindly ask you to make arrangements to either put your bag on hold or change your pickup location to Wednesday. You have the option to choose from Keller Market House, Preston Family Farms, or pick up directly at our farm. This way, you won't miss out on the fresh and local goodness we have in store for you.

On the farm, we have been experiencing hazy days that have lent an air of mystery and tranquility to our surroundings. Despite the weather, we have been hard at work harvesting an abundance of delectable produce for your Fourth of July festivities.

Our tomato plants have truly thrived, providing us with an impressive variety to enjoy on Independence Day. Whether you prefer the classic red tomatoes, the vibrant yellow ones, or the irresistible sweetness of cherry tomatoes, we have an ample supply to meet your culinary desires.

In addition to tomatoes, we have also started harvesting peppers and eggplants. These versatile and colorful vegetables are excellent additions to your holiday meals. They can be grilled, roasted, or incorporated into various dishes, adding depth of flavor and visual appeal.

We're excited to inform you that Josh has just returned from the butcher shop, ensuring a wide array of meat options to satisfy your appetite. From succulent steaks to flavorful sausages, you'll find plenty of choices to elevate your Fourth of July grilling experience.

To complement your meaty delights, we have a cornucopia of fresh produce to complete your local feast. Here are some suggestions and recipe ideas to inspire your culinary creations:

Coleslaw with Fresh Cabbage: Our crisp and vibrant cabbage is perfect for creating a refreshing coleslaw. Shred the cabbage, add some grated carrots, and toss with a tangy dressing. It pairs wonderfully with grilled meats or as a side dish at your holiday gathering.

Broccoli Salad: Utilize our farm-fresh broccoli to prepare a delightful salad. Blanch the broccoli florets, combine them with crispy bacon, diced red onions, dried cranberries, and a creamy dressing. This salad offers a tantalizing combination of flavors and textures.

Classic Potato Salad: Our new potatoes are ideal for crafting a traditional potato salad. Boil the potatoes until tender, then mix them with a creamy dressing, diced onions, and fresh herbs. This timeless dish is a beloved addition to any summer celebration.

Burger Toppings: Enhance your burger experience by topping them with slices of our juicy tomatoes, crisp lettuce leaves, and thinly sliced onions. These farm-fresh ingredients will add a burst of flavor and a satisfying crunch to your burgers.

To complete the patriotic color scheme, we are delighted to share that our blueberries are ripe and ready to be enjoyed. These sweet gems will add a touch of red, white, and blue to your desserts, parfaits, or as a delightful snack.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support and for choosing to celebrate the Fourth of July with locally sourced, farm-fresh produce. Your commitment to our farm and the local food movement means the world to us.

Wishing you and your loved ones a fantastic and joyous Fourth of July. May your day be filled with delicious food, cherished company, and the warm glow of community spirit.

Happy Independence Day!
