Wind, rain and snow oh no! Week #5

Posted on June 10th, 2020 by Cale Sprister

If you have been reading these weekly Farm Happenings you can see I worry and talk about weather a lot! First thing every morning and several times every day I check the forecast. Weather drives everything I do on the farm. And what weather we have been having for the past few days.

Between the heat, the extreme winds, and then the cold (snow) I don't know how the farm made it through the week.

I really was looking forward to adding in some different variety in the bags this week, but as I went on my farm walk I learned that an entire bed of salad turnip failed.  They came out of the ground small and stumpy.  Not good!

I was also hoping I had enough snap peas to get some to a few of you.  Well I was very disappointed in that harvest as well.  Maybe next week.

So we'll be swimming in salad mix, spinach and radish…again.  Different types of radish though.

And baby bok choy is coming on strong, although it doesn't "look" the best, due to a little pest called the flea beetle, it is a very tasty item!

I also grew some super healthy and delicious sunflower shoots to go into salads or for snacking.

The herb share this week is cilantro.

On the future front tomatoes and peppers are forming.  Hopefully by the first week of July I'll have some ripe fruit for you!

Please enjoy what you get and let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
