Farm Happenings for June 11, 2020

Posted on June 8th, 2020 by Andrea McAdow

Hi all,

We have a lot going on this week in our shares. The squash has really hit its stride and our first green beans are trickling in.

I was able to get my hands on some organic "hen of the woods" mushrooms and organic yukon gold potatoes. These are available for swap or add on this week. I am working with my suppliers to get more organic pantry staples in our rotation, if you have an idea for something you would like to see please let me know.

Our season is beginning to wind down leading into our summer break. Its been a lot of cleaning up and prepping for the heat this week. We started sowing cover crop that will *fingers crossed* germinate perfectly and protect our soil from the desert sun. Any photosynthesis going on above ground lends itself to increased soil health below ground. That's exactly what we want.

Once our break comes, I know I'll be taking some time to slow down (whatever that means) and reflect on the season and how we can better serve our town. I am sure there is more we can be doing to build community and I am going to dig into this on my downtime. As always, if you have suggestions please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

A bit of good news is that we are FINALLY set up to accept SNAP. Improving food access in our community is a BIG deal to us and this is a great step forward to getting good food to more people. This will go for CSA shares, shop sales (beginning this week), and one time farm stand shares. If this applies to you please reach out and we will get you all set up.

PS Our Fall Shares are allllmost sold out (one just got freed up). I do think we'll be able to add at least five more so email me ASAP if you want one of those. Existing CSA members get first dibs.

Thanks for being here,

Farmer Andrea
