Rivendale Farms CSA Newsletter, Week 13 (September 4)

Posted on August 30th, 2018 by Neil Stauffer

Hello, Rivendale CSA members. How are you keeping up with your summer veggies? Are you getting enough of them? Too much? Are you feeling good about the mix and varieties available? Are you wishing for something that we have not offered?

We love the customization that the Harvie platform allows, but we also still daydream about how the food we grow ends up being used in all of your homes. It's a cool to think that dozens of families are sharing the same foods from our fields each week. Perhaps cooked similarly--or perhaps cooked very differently. In any case, we trust that no news is basically good news. But if you want to let us know how we can improve, we promise we have thick skin and are always happy to hear from you. :)

This coming week will be heavily influenced by Labor Day. While some of us live on the farm, our crew has to commute--often from quite a distance--to work here. And as much as they may enjoy the farm work, the driving back and forth gets tiresome. So they will be taking an opportunity to enjoy the holiday weekend away from the farm, which makes getting your CSA boxes ready for Tuesday morning a bit of a challenge.

Don't worry, we have a plan. You may notice that there's a different mix of items available for the box this time, and a big part of that is the holiday schedule. We promise to offer some great options just the same--including some new items. For example, just today our crew was out hauling in crates and crates of winter squash varieties. A few of them (including a personal favorite of mine--the delicata) will be available this week.

Have a great holiday weekend. And thanks for your continued support!

One behalf of the crew,

Neil

ps--Here's a pic of a portion of today's winter squash harvest. Almost makes you ready for Fall, right?
