Sweet and dry

Posted on May 31st, 2022 by Elizabeth Gallo

As we continue to persevere through these dry times, we are rewarded with some sweetness. Mango trees in our orchard are flowering heavily with promises of mangoes late into the summer. Our pineapples are ripening quickly and we have to harvest often to quell rat pressure. Even the soursops are starting to ripen despite the lack of rain. Currently we are battling the birds to see who will discover the fruits first. The picture above was taken this morning when Andy and I came across a whole lotta ripe jackfruit. We have been featuring a lot of jackfruit at our Slow Down Dinners so if you'd like some inspiration on how to cook with it make sure to stop on by. We have a dinner this coming Saturday June 4 and June 18 as well.

In the fields we are busy planting crops for the remainder of the season and working on turning over new fields. While keeping our fields irrigated has been a bit difficult these past few weeks, many of our crop varieties do well in the dryness and can hold up with a little less water. We have an abundance of cucumbers, pineapples and arugula this week as well as a new value added item - Baba ganoush. We hope everyone has a great rest of their week and we look forward to seeing you this weekend!
