Thank you for a wonderful Summer Season!!

Posted on September 21st, 2021 by Nate Olive

All of us at Ridge to Reef Farm would like to thank YOU for supporting us throughout the past 22 weeks of the season! This is the final week and we have a huge variety to share. We hope that you have enjoyed our local organic produce in your kitchen!

In October, we will have our virtual farm stand open every week just like the seasonal share, so please click on the emails you will get next week to see what's coming weekly. We will resume our member farm share program in early November. Make sure to check your auto-renew status on your profile page (click to "on") so that you can be first in line for the next season. It will be a "mini-season" to run up until Christmas week. After that, we will start our main winter season in early January.

It's guacamole week with a big haul of avocados expected right in time for the season finale! The baby onions will go great with that as will the seasoning or bell peppers available in limited quantities this week. There's also plenty cucumbers, lettuce, and mangoes to go around. Customize your box to get your favorite share.

In the picture above you see the Sunn Hemp in our greenhouse, which is adding organic nitrogen to the soil. This week we are planting in these beds tomatoes, which will use the plant material as mulch and use the added nitrogen for healthy plant growth. These are the in-between season things we do to organically manage our soils so we can raise the most healthy and productive crops possible.

This is a good week to bring back any clean boxes or egg cartons for re-use. This season we have been able to re-use over 500 boxes (an entire shipment's worth), which helps cut waste and costs. You can return your aluminum cans any week at Leatherback Brewing Co., our awesome mid-island pick-up hosts. Thank you for doing your part!

I would also like to personally thank our Assistant Farm Manager Elizabeth Gallo, who has done an amazing job this season! She is off-island this week making up for her art degree graduation that was postponed last year due to the pandemic. Congratulations Elizabeth for graduating and for running a stellar Farm Share season!

We hope to see you at our next dinner on Oct 2nd. Email us for details. In the meantime we will be working hard to create a magical late fall and winter Farm Share season for you!

With Gratitude,

Nate and the Farm Crew
