New growth

Posted on September 7th, 2021 by Elizabeth Gallo

It's always around this point in the CSA season where I start to get worried. Will we have enough crops for the final weeks? What if I don't catch a pest or disease on time and everything dies? I had the recent death of some of our zucchini plants on my mind this morning while walking around and I almost missed out on the rest of our crops that, well,  aren't dying. Little reminders of new growth like this beautiful eggplant flower help show me that everything works out in the end and getting stressed out about caterpillars or flea beetles isn't going to make anything better. Thanks to our wonderful crew and the hard work they put in everyday, we are able to grow beautiful and delicious things, even if sometimes pests get the best of us.

On the brighter side of things we have lots of new crops to look forward to in the final weeks of our season such as green beans, more cucumber and bell pepper, eggplant (fingers crossed), and maybe if we're lucky we'll get the first bit of our cherry tomato crop! The most exciting part of being a farmer is watching the little itty bitty plants you throw in the ground grow and bloom in what seems like the blink of an eye. It never ceases to amaze me what can be produced from a single seed, and I've seeded thousands upon thousands of them. Nature is pretty cool...

We hope everyone has a stellar week and we look forward to seeing everyone this weekend!
