Watermelon & Things

Posted on July 29th, 2020 by Nate Olive

As I sit here watching the first-almost-named storm to lightly hit us this year, it has me thinking. Overall, we have grown too many crops for this time of year for our Farm Share program. Is that possible?

Hopefully by now, you have seen that with a few clicks you can go beyond the weekly share box to add many extra organic crops that we have available for you this week. Remember that you can customize your box to get your most perfect box -and then some- every week.  We are so glad to have an abundance problem this season, and we encourage you to take advantage of all there is to offer.

This week we are flowing with sweet sugar baby watermelons that we picked early before the tropical storm rains to preserve the sweetness. They are perfect for a snack on a hot summer day.  These are a small variety, but each one goes a long way.

Our first real flush of avocadoes are appearing. Some were already tickled down already by the winds.  Others will take a few days to ripen. Guacamole is in order. We also have a mass of cucumbers -and dill- at the same time. Pickles? Cucumber salad? Get creative and please share:) Zucchinis have made a strong return and are growing so fast with the extra rain. Dill, baisl, lettuce, turnips, radishes....

I could go on, but the list in your email will tell the tale. In these times of uncertainty with Covid-19 and temperature checks at the supermarkets, long lines, and restaurant limitations,  we are more than pleased to be able to offer you an abundance of local, fresh, and lovingly grown crops for your home cooking.

Please stop by our Farm Tienda on Saturday to see what else we have to offer.  There will also be pickled and deviled eggs, mango habanero sauce, and much more from Misfit Island munchies to add to your weekly menu.

Thanks for supporting us and our awesome pick-up hosts at Leatherback Brewing Co.

We hope you enjoy this weeks share to its fullest -and then some:)
