Autumn Week 9: The Last Hurrah

Posted on November 10th, 2020 by Hana Newcomb

Our final Farm Notes, Vol. 21, No. 12 of the season is online. And this week we are giving thanks.

This is the final week of the Autumn CSA--congratulations to all! Some of us on the farm have tried to eat a packed CSA share every week, and most of us didn't manage it well. We are spoiled here at the source and are accustomed to picking up a couple of things each day--so we salute you. We hope that you have expanded your culinary horizons and tried new recipes along the way while still finding plenty of your standard favorites.

It was an unusual fall--cool and lovely in both September and October, then a long heat wave in November. Great growing weather for the roots and leaves. We were amazed by the abundance.

When we set up this Harvie system at the beginning of the season, they strongly recommended that we make it an automatic renewal for next year. We had mixed feelings about this as we have never done that before. In any case, you will get an email alerting you that the renewal is about to happen, with instructions on how to opt out. We hope you will decide to join us for another season!

We are looking forward to some quiet months. The vegetables never stop altogether--we have some cold hardy crops in the hoop houses that will be ready by late winter. We will be back at the Dupont Circle Farmers Market by the end of February. We start back at our other markets (Arlington, Falls Church, Leesburg, Reston, Takoma Park) by the end of April. And we will be ready for the spring/summer CSA by the first week of June.

Thank you so much for supporting our farm and for choosing to be a member of our CSA. It was a great year for growing vegetables, and for that we are most grateful.
