Farm Happenings for January 18, 2020

Posted on January 14th, 2020 by Ben Sayler

Happy New Year! It looks like we will be getting a winter storm this weekend. That being said, your box will be packed and ready to be picked up on Saturday at 8 am. As you know, we have a long gravel driveway. Depending on the timing of the storm, the amount of accumulation we get, and when you come, you may need a four wheel drive vehicle. If you cannot pick up your share on Saturday, we will be happy to keep it refrigerated to be picked up on Sunday or later in the week. Please let us know if you need to reschedule your pick up day due to the weather and we will work something out!

In warmer news...2020 Main Season shares are now available! Sweet tomatoes and peaches will be here before we know it. The shares will include fruit this season. Eggs, meat, and 'farm extra' shares are available as add-ons. Please sign up ASAP. If you pay in full before March 1st, you will get a $25 credit to your account. As always, thank you for continuing to support our small family farm and sharing in the harvests. We couldn't do it without you! If there is any specific varieties vegetables you would like us to grow for you this season, please let us know so we can plant accordingly.

We are also looking to add additional pick up locations this season. If you would like to have a pick up at your home or work, please let us know!

In this weeks share, you may notice a difference in texture and flavor of the salad greens. Pictured above is the bed of salad that we will be harvesting for the first time! We seeded it in the middle of October and it is finally ready to harvest. The first cutting from the plants generally have a softer texture and milder flavor than later cuttings. When we harvest salad greens, we leave about an inch of the plant remaining and it grows back for future harvests!
