Farm Happenings for August 4, 2021

Posted on August 4th, 2021 by Ben Sayler

Greetings from the farm. Sorry we haven't had a newsletter the past couple weeks. It has been so busy and it was all I could do to get the menu created. Between not having reliable help, harvesting, planting, and a growing family it has been hard to keep up with everything! Last week we planted the first round of fall crops including cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, kale, chard, lettuce, collards, and more. The groundhogs and rabbits caused lots of damage to the new planted babies in the spring, so we were proactive and installed a fence around the border to hopefully keep them away. Keep your fingers crossed all goes well!

We have lots of new items on the menu for you. Yellow Peaches, Blackberries, and Pears are now available from the orchards. There is also more types of peppers and tomatoes available. A new mushroom grower, Baltispore, will be providing mushrooms for the remainder of the season. They attend the farmers market with us and have an excellent product. This week we are getting a mix of pioppinos, golden oyster, and lions mane for mushrooms shares and to add on.

Tomatoes are coming in big time. Please order boxes of seconds to can or freeze to enjoy during the winter.
