2022 Fall Share Week 6 - The End (officially)

Posted on December 4th, 2022 by Kim Barker

Hi farm friends!

We have come to the last week of our inaugural Fall Farm Share. We are happy to say that it was a very successful first try at the Fall Share and we have no doubts in our minds that we will do it again next year, with an even bigger membership. Our fall crops were all fairly successful (other than onions and squash which we bought in, and the fact that we ran out of garlic), and we were happy to round it out with some extra items from Common Ground Farm and HOPE Eco Farms collective. Our hoophouses were very productive with spinach, kale, salad mix, mini romaine, chard, and bok choy. We enjoyed keeping the harvest going and we hope you did too!

Truly, we could keep the fall share going for another few weeks given the amount of produce we still have in storage, in the field, and in the hoophouses. So, we will continue to run a weekly Harvie "farm stand" aka online store where you'll be able to purchase items "a la carte". It will be just like your weekly share except a box won't be pre-built for you; you'll just add whatever items you want like any other online shopping experience. You can expect to see carrots, salad mix, kale and chard, turnip, watermelon radish, onions, hakurei, rutabaga and celariac, leeks, and fennel. And perhaps a few other items that we still have in storage. You'll get a weekly email reminder about this for as long as it runs. Our on-farm store will be closed from now on so this will be the only way to get our veggies until the spring.

Now that our season is officially coming to a close, we will be turning to the business side of the farm. That means setting financial goals and budgets, crop planning, seed ordering, accounting, marketing, and overall organizing our 2023 season. We'll also be fixing things around the farm, chopping wood, and working on some infrastructure and systems improvements for next season. And of course we're looking forward to some later mornings, slower days, and quieter evenings. Along with the rest of the natural world, it's our time to turn inward and rest.

THANK YOU for joining us for the last 6 weeks (and for many, the last 26 weeks!). You are the core of our farm business. We greatly appreciate your dedication to buying local food directly from your farmers!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas. We will surely see you soon.

Your farm-ily,

Kim and Alex, Rosemary and Lark
