2022 Fall Share Week 5 - Second Last Week

Posted on November 28th, 2022 by Kim Barker

Hi farm friends,

Welcome to the second last week of the Fall Share! It's gone by so quickly. We're looking forward to coming to a point to rest and do some serious reflections for how we're going to run our farm next year. Keep an eye out for a survey that's coming your way soon!

On The Farm

We have had a pretty rough week getting over whatever sickness is going around the land. Now that we're on the up and up we're ready to get moving and working on the farm again! For this week, that mostly means digging up the rest of our carrots and moving some tarps around the field. And we are also preparing for our 3-day stint in a dome at the Holly Jolly Market at Covent Market. We'll be there Friday-Sunday this weekend with our honey, salad mix and carrots, wreaths, some beeswax candles and maybe a few other items. This is new territory for us, so - wish us luck!

What Happens After the Share is Over?

Next week is the last week of the Fall Share. Then we're going to inventory what we have left and do a sale on Harvie the following week, to give folks a chance to purchase veggies for Christmas feasting or to store up for the winter. We think we'll still have a lot of salad mix so we're trying to figure out how to keep that going out to people. Does anyone have a lead on a small grocery store or health food store that might want to stock our salad mix?

Veggie Highlights this Week

Nothing new this week, but maybe you want to give watermelon radish a try if you haven't yet? Here's my favourite recipe for a winter watermelon radish salad:

We're sitting on quite a lot of turnips right now, they don't seem super popular. How about making some pickled turnips?

That's all the veggie inspiration I have for now!

Thanks as always for all your support! Eat well, friends.

Your farmer,

Kim
