Squirrel update, Fire update, Schwag!

Posted on July 15th, 2023 by Katherine Nietmann

Greetings!

As the vegetables grow silently in the fields, planes and helicopters continue to buzz overhead, dropping water on the Bee Top fire and bringing and removing supplies to/from the crews working on the slope.  We are very impressed at how the fire is being managed, and we don't feel threatened at all thanks to their efforts (we live and farm literally at the base of the mountain).  That said, we have begun cutting some trees down around our house and garden, and we are assembling a sprinkler system around the outside of our house, just to mitigate any danger!

On the squirrel front, so far 26 squirrels have perished at the hands of various exterminators (feline and human alike!), and our crops are beginning to bounce back.  But we do still hear the telltale "chirp chirp chirp chirp" around the farm and see some survivors climbing atop the compost piles.  As mentioned earlier, some crops have suffered at the mouths of these chirpers, and as a result there is no spring mix this week.  Sorry!  Cilantro and lettuce heads are back however, having survived the onslaught of nibbling rodents.

Finally, we will be selling Moose Meadow Farm logo tees shortly!  These will be for pre-order, and you can order any color and size that you like.  We have unisex adult, youth, toddler and infant options.  They will be available in early August, after we collect all the orders.  Above, June is sporting the toddler pink!

This is one of our fancy new plant house benches!  They fit 25% more trays and have rolling tops, making navigating the aisles much easier.

Thank you for your membership and support,
