Welcome to the CSA!

Welcome to Week 1 of the Summer CSA!

We are so glad you are here.  Together with our crew, we have been working incredibly hard to bring you the earliest, highest quality produce available in the Sandpoint area.  We literally planted our first seeds on January 1!

This week you will find a dazzling array of produce, from cherry tomatoes to cucumbers to celery, beets, herbs, salad greens, carrots, radishes, broccolini and kale.  If you don't see something you were hoping for in your box, you can always try to swap it in, or wait until next week when we'll have more.

Below you can read a short version of our origin story, which explains why Katherine and Spencer are standing in front of an empty field in the picture above!

The picture above is of Katherine and Spencer in August 2015, approximately 9 months before we moved permanently to what is now Moose Meadow Farm.  We are standing in front of what is now our 2 acre farm, before any ground breaking, fence building, high tunnel construction, or planting began.  We literally started from the ground up, with some experience under us and a whole lot of energy and passion.  We have since turned this piece of land (which is a tiny piece of the 80 acre property owned by Spencer's dad and uncle) into a thriving farm and business, employing 5 people and providing our family's sole income for 6+ years.  We now have two kids who also call this home, and an embarrassing number of cats, who do a darn good job at keeping rodents away!  Some interesting facts:

  • We built our own cabin on the property in about 10 weeks, the same summer that we built our first high tunnel and broke ground on two outdoor field plots (2016)
  • Our first season selling was the winter of 2016-2017 (we sold salad greens, carrots and microgreens)
  • We have always been a year-round farm
  • We have always specialized in spring mix, microgreens and tomatoes
  • We have 1 acre in production and 1/4 acre in high tunnels (both heated and unheated)
  • We are certified organic by the Montana Department of Agriculture and also Real Organic Project certified (goes above and beyond USDA organic)
  • We are entering out 7th summer CSA season
  • We don't attend any farmers markets.  Our markets are CSA, online store, and grocery stores and restaurants
  • Spencer and Katherine went on a 90 day cross country bike trip right before starting Moose Meadow Farm in 2016!

Needless to say, we've come a long way and we're so thrilled that you are now along on the journey with us!  We are as passionate as ever about what we do and love to share it with you.  Next week we'll introduce you to our amazing crew!
