Week 15 Update: Greens are back!

Posted on September 5th, 2021 by Katherine Nietmann

Welcome to Week 15!

Spring Mix is back and microgreens and shoots are in abundance.  You should be able to get back on your regular salad schedule now!

This week has been filled with tunnel "flips".  What that means in farmer speak is we remove summer crops from the high tunnels, amend and prepare the beds again, then plant winter crops.  This week we took out some of our tomatoes, bell peppers and summer squash to make room for lettuce heads, swiss chard, celery and spinach.  We plant multiple successions of most of our fall/winter crops to make sure they mature at the right time and that we have them all winter, so these late August/early September plantings are the first of many successions.  There will be more tunnel flipping going on the whole month of September!  After that, our work load drops off dramatically.  We turn our focus to pulling root crops out of the ground, which is a monstrous amount of work, but it is not as time-sensitive as planting the high tunnels.

Enjoy the greens (and everything else!) this week, and as always THANK YOU for your membership!
