Farm Happenings for September 21, 2021 - the week that was

Posted on September 18th, 2021 by Mike Milsom

Well...  THAT happened.

What a week!! First I decide to get creative and ambitious with the share contents and we elect to offer up a wider than ususal selection of herbs during the dog end part of the season for them. THEN, I compound the felony by deciding it would be nice to include a hot pepper mix.  Oh yes, and tomatoes are still at large.  400 plus of you...two of us this week and Mike decides that this is the week for a highly labour intensive share.  We just thought we were going to get out of the week alive...when Mother Nature decided to remind us who is really in charge. Ugh! (lol)  A special thank you to Alex, who worked his holiday trip around our delivery schedule and added more stops to his load just to be helpful.  Today there is Angela, who is a CSA member, who has come out to help with tomatoes which will make next week easier.  Very grateful to her as well. Rob, our Agrologist, was by on Friday. He even helped pack some shares as we talked about the things we are going to do this fall to get ready for a good start for next year. I am very excited to tell you all about that. Next year...all I can say is...  wow. You will want to be a part of it, I promise.

A great share though, wasn't it? Or at least I thought it was. Nice to mix it up a bit and keep things interesting.

Now, time is of the essence as this share is way late, but I really need you to know that this week just past was really made possible by some very earnest extra effort on behalf of Marie-Ève.  She was here early, she stayed late... like 1:30 in the morning late.. working in a most determined fashion in the shire by herself bunching all the herbs, harvesting and then packing and refusing to go until things were cleaned up.  She then hops on her 10 speed bike, a satchel of second grade of vegetables slung over her back, and peddles head down back home in the dark. Offer to carry something for her, offer her a ride home..she will just shake her head and say, "I am fine."

On her days off she is a lead for the Hidden Harvest Organization.

A very special, intelligent, authentic, and hard working person. We are blessed to have her in our midst.

This weeks share is bringing back some old favorites  and there is ofcourse is still lots of summer crop left to be had.

Enjoy :-)
