Goats and piglets are here!

Posted on May 21st, 2023 by Brittany Reardon

Last week some new animals arrived at the farm - Nigerian Dwarf goats! We're excited to have them here to work on clearing the brush in the old Christmas tree fields. When you come to the farm, you'll see their fence all the way down the end of the driveway. This herd of goats actually came from New Hampshire when we were farming up there several years ago. The goats have two long-time friends, pot-belly pigs named Ham and Elvis. And, the menagerie was joined by three brand new piglets a few days ago. We'll be having a Goat Greet later this year so keep your eyes out for info about that.

We are in desperate need of rain, lots of our crops are struggling with the scarce amount we've received. This week will be full of running drip tape and getting water on everything that we can to keep things growing despite the dryness. Greens will be sparce this week, partially due to the lack of water. They will be back though, so don't fear! Just do your rain dance that a storm or two will pop up in the forecast :)

Have you tried the chevre from Camelot Valley?? It's creamy, fresh & delicious, and it comes in three yummy flavors....Pink Himalayan Sea Salt, French Herb, and Spicy Everything Bagel. We have extra this week so grab one to try; local goat cheese is a real treat!

For all those participating in the compost program, we are working on getting a better scale to put in the shed. For now, just do your best to estimate the weight of your compost. Thank you!! And, if you'd like to grab a bucket/lid on your next trip to the farm, you'll find them right outside the Farm Stand / garage.

A reminder that if you'd like to reschedule your share to a given week, a minimum of a week's notice is required in order to reschedule before the delivery is created. If you attempt to reschedule after the delivery is created (which I do a few days before a delivery period) you will not be able to from your dashboard. If you have any questions about how to do this please let me know.

See you soon and thank you for supporting your local growers!
