The Summer Slump

Posted on August 10th, 2022 by Brittany Reardon

Good morning!

**Note for late week....due to my very delayed email sending, I'm extending the customization window to Thursday at 11:59 am. You'll receive a reminder email four hours before the window closes. **

Summer has a way of humbling me every season. The ambition is high in March; we have big plans to grow ALL OF THE THINGS. (I'm definitely blaming seed catalogs here.) But now, as August rolls in, spring's excitement has long worn off, we're hot and exhausted, and there's still a huge list of things to be done before we can rest. Not to mention the knee-high grass all over the farm! Many crops have come in, some have done well and others have struggled. It's the same every season, but we try to improve upon each one, getting a little bit better as we grow.

For this week we're putting out another call for help as we try to get fall plants in the ground before the planting window closes. If you're interested in working with us for an hour or two, a day or two, or longer, please send us a message.

C O M P O S T

If you're interested in participating in the compost program please pick up a clean(er) bucket with lid in the farm stand when you pick up your share. Throughout the week, put all your compostables in the bucket, including the following:

  • all produce scraps (peels, rinds, skins, roots, husks, etc etc)
  • all grain waste (bread, rice, cereals, beans, etc)
  • egg shells, meat and bones (EXCEPT PORK), fish skins/bones/etc
  • expired dairy products
  • tea bags / unbleached coffee filters

please do not put the following in the bucket:

  • compostable bags/cups/plates/etc (these won't break down and need an industrial composting process)
  • paper towels
  • any paper/napkins

Then return your bucket when you pick up your share, and pick up another clean bucket and start again!

We're looking for a volunteer or two to help us wash the compost buckets so they can be used again. If you are interested text brittany at 443-643-5684.

If you have questions about composting please let us know!
