Last week of our Spring/Summer CSA

Peppers again take center stage for our final Spring/Summer CSA delivery! Hot summers bring lots of eggplants, tomatoes and peppers! I think farmers have a passion for peppers because much time is put into these plants before they ever bear fruit and especially if your waiting for those varieties that you harvested red, yellow or orange! We started these Jimmy Nardellos seeds back in February, they take about 6 days to germinate, then after they get their first true leaves we up-pot them to 4" containers. They will stay in those 4" pots at least 30 days before planted in our high tunnels. Peppers are what we call "heavy feeders" and need fertilized multiple times during the growing process. These peppers take 80 days from transplant to produce these beautiful sweet red peppers! Something to think about the next time you are adding a pepper to your next delicious recipe! Jimmy Nardellos are considered a frying pepper and are delicious added to anything like omlettes , stir fries, rice or pasta dishes and eaten raw!
