a dish with radish

Posted on November 29th, 2020 by John Eisenstein

Hello!

New this week is watermelon radish, pictured above.  Watermelon radishes are one of the so- called "winter radishes" because their excellent storage abilities enable them to be enjoyed all winter.  They are quite mild and easy to eat raw, although they are also quite good in a stir fry or curry.  As you can see, the interior is (usually!) a bright magenta, which gives a good amount of visual appeal to otherwise bland looking winter salads.  These radishes must be peeled before eating.  They are large enough (that's a half pint mason jar in the picture to give you an idea of scale) that this is not an inconvenience.  We also have round red radishes for a few more weeks.

In other news I am becoming obsessed with onions.
