Farm Happenings for April 24, 2024

Posted on April 21st, 2024 by Mark Kastner
The very chilly seasonal nights are normal for April. We have about 25% of our Tomato and Pepper plant in the unheated greenhouses now, and the cold is a factor we can deal with out of experience. The unseasonal very  warm days are conditions that challenge us and our new fruiting transplants, and require a lot of extra work! Cucumbers are still safe because they are still 7-10 days from transplant. Except for a brief encounter with green aphids, the entire Spring/ Summer crops look great!

The home gardener should begin to plan the main focus of the garden, and order soon. All of our garden plants are guaranteed and chemical free and the orders have begun. Meanwhile your orders are reserved, outdoor acclimated, and cared for in our nursery until your desired delivery date. Our customer orders are cared for daily, and continue to mature as we await your receipt!

This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday I am in the back of the parking lot behind Flour Child Bakery in Grand Ledge 11:00-12:00 noon. Schedule home deliveries and delivery make ups are Saturday afternoon. Thank you and I hope to see you soon!
