Farm Happenings for March 23, 2024

Posted on March 21st, 2024 by Mark Kastner
I notice a late easing of demand for organic and chemical free food. Some of the easing may be due to the freedom hangover from 3 years of Covid restrictions and health concerns. Another aspect is the alarming rise in grocery costs! My seed, supply materials, and labor cost are surely going up, but not 15-20% ! A main driver in price increases is the cost of fuel to get produce delivered from 2000 miles away; I am 20 miles away and my prices remain modest and produce fresh. The big retail stores are required to be 80% chemical free in order to qualify "organic". My requirements are 100% as a small local fresh producer, but I don't mind, because that is the only way we know how to grow!

The local proximity  to our Market Friends adjusts for a remarkable cost reduction. Our CSA  Member and online customer orders affords no extra waste, and the farmer markets have also been kind in their demand for fresh food! The bottom line is very competitive pricing for products that are measurably fresher and nutritionally superior. As our weekly menus expand, I offer you a very nice selection of great fresh, chemical free food. Best of health to all, and thank you once again for all that you do!
