Farm Happenings for February 7, 2024

Posted on February 4th, 2024 by Mark Kastner
This week's menu will be a little short as the balance of the Winter catches up and the first Spring transplants are still 3-4 weeks out. Predictably, the crops will accelerate their maturity; Friday we observed  1 minute of daylight beyond 10 hours, and today we are already up to 6 minutes!
Among the great benefits that I enjoy on this job is the constant exposure to wonderful expectations. Please meet Analyssia , our incoming Intern for 2024! Ani will be joining our work crew for orientation in March and then again in April, if her school schedule allows. She is already an accomplished junior at Michigan State University, majoring in Sustainable Organic Horticulture, and is a Michigan native from downriver Detroit area, literally a hotbed of fresh "Truck Farmed" produce! Ani owns a small passive solar powered greenhouse and has experimented on her own with season extension and plant propagation. She has identified three learning objectives through her academic advisor, and her major project focus is managing Tomato Production in our two Tomato Houses!!
I hope y'all are hungry!
This week I am at the Family Fare  parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday I am at the parking lot behind Flour Child Bakery in Grand Ledge 11:00-12:00 noon. Scheduled home deliveries are Saturday afternoon unless otherwise arrangements are made. I hope to see you soon, and Thank You!
