Farm Happenings for June 7, 2023

Posted on June 4th, 2023 by Mark Kastner
With Memorial Day weekend past, the focus is getting the summer transplants in the ground so we can shift to mid July for plant starts for Autumn harvest.  Just when I felt that we may have it manageable, the Sweet Potato slips arrived in a 90 degree afternoon. You know it's summer when it's time to plant Sweet Potatoes!

The Strawberries arrived about 10 days early, thanks to the near record heat, and the Asparagus will exit early for the very  same reason. The Tomato Crop will arrive about our normal early market entry, mainly to the diligent work Jessie, our summer Intern. Among many other tasks, Jessie is in charge of the Tomato House!

This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:30. Thursday afternoon  is farm pick up and scheduled home deliveries. Saturday we are at the Market on the Grand on River Street in Grand Ledge, 9:00-1:00 PM. I hope to see you soon!
