Farm Happenings for November 9, 2022

Posted on November 6th, 2022 by Mark Kastner
This week will focus on indoor preparation for the overnight below freezing temperatures. I still have four 80' beds to finish for the transplants of Baby Lettuce for Salad mixes, Red Beets, and Spring Onions. Except for weekly seeding Microgreens, we are finished seeding flats of crops until the week after Christmas, and then we work on Spring, 2023!

We lost one of the new 12' X 50' hoops  to the wind storm. I replaced the late season cucumbers there with some pretty nice Curly Kale. The plastic ripped the entire top lengthwise and I don't think that I'll have time to replace it this growing year. I should be able to protect the Kale plants for a while, and we have an abundance of young Kale in the other hoops. Agriculture 101!

This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Indoor Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday I am in the parking lot behind Flour Child Bakery in Grand Ledge, 11:00-12:00 noon.
Please note that we are still adding new fresh produce items to the weekly menu, and I hope to see you soon!
