Farm Happenings for February 16, 2022

Posted on February 13th, 2022 by Mark Kastner

Hello!

I will be cleaning up and expanding the nursery in order to facilitate Vegetable Plant Sales. I will  publish a list of transplants available for purchase in a couple of weeks. We can also accommodate special requests, and we begin planting for Spring and early Summer gardens around March 1. Unless you supply me with some toxic poisons, all plants will be chemical free, growing in Certified Organic Soil with enough nutrition in the containers to carry the newbies for 5-6 weeks!

For the home gardeners looking for adventure, this time of year is great for new experiments and plant variety trials. If I make a mistake in the Fall, every passing day gets shorter and by the time an error rears its ugly head, there is no time left to make adjustments! When we realize a mistake, I record the observations and redo the  event the following Spring; growing in the Winter needs to be boring and safe, because Mother Nature will provide the grower  with all kinds of unwelcome surprises, just because!

This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon and the Allen Street Indoor Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday we do all Grand Ledge deliveries in the parking lot behind Flour Child Bakery, 11:00-12:00 noon. Please see the attached menu and let me know if I can help. Note Spring replacements for Winter Greens are in the ground, but still a little ways to go!
