Farm Happenings for December 23, 2020

Posted on December 20th, 2020 by Mark Kastner
Tomorrow is the Winter Solstice, and the shortest day for daylight (9:01 hrs.) this year. Knowing better than to cross Mother Nature, we will wait to start Spring Planting until Tuesday! We'll start out easy with some perennial herbs, microgreens, and scallions. The week of January 10 we begin our really  intense campaign for 2021!

I'm not going to harvest cut greens for the next 2 weeks due to holiday dates that conflict with picking for certain deliveries. I will have two types of head lettuce to get you through until the week after New Years weekend, when we will resume our selections of  salad mixes. I checked yesterday; the crop of Asian Greens for that salad mix are ready to go, bringing our lineup to 5 rotating selections for January and February!

This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot on Wednesday in Eaton Rapids at 12:00 noon, and later at the Tannin Italian Restaurant parking lot, Michigan Ave at Shepard St., 4:30-5:30, to serve our Allen Street Friends, Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday I am at the parking lot behind Flour Child Bakery in Grand Ledge, 11:00-12:00 noon. I plan a similar delivery schedule the following week. Please review the attached menu and let me know if I can help. Happy Holidays, and please be safe!
