Farm Happenings for July 22, 2020

Posted on July 19th, 2020 by Mark Kastner

Hello!

I have plenty of Romaine and more Boston Lettuce is coming, but a germination failure will sideline the Baby Lettuce Mix for about 3 weeks Other greens like Escarole and Endive have bolted to seed, typical for the dog days of July. I will reseed later this week; the cool August nights will help those greens, along with our Asian Greens Salad Mix.

The nursery is now emptied, awaiting the Fall flats for Autumn production, and eventually, Winter. Our beloved Student Helpers will be leaving in about 5-6 weeks, so production planning is critical, and I work on the timing almost every day.

This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Farmers Market after that. Thursday afternoon is at farm pick-up,and Saturday we are in Grand Ledge at JC Park on the river for the Market on the Grand, 9:00-1:00. we anticipate good weather and because we'll also have fruit, we'll have at least one of our workers helping out that you can meet in person!

Please see the attached menu of what we hope to bring, and let me know if I can help.. I hope to see you soon!

Thank you!
