Update from the Taggarts

Posted on February 3rd, 2024 by Lindy Clark

Hello All!

We hope this email finds you all well and happy! This winter has been a roller coaster! This last week has felt like spring! It has been nice, but we hope it turns out to be a more normal year for the summer weather!! The one good thing though, it seems there is less sickness going around right now, which we're grateful for!

The last couple weeks have been busy, but excellent! We have been diligently preparing for our first summer on the farm! We are up to our elbows in seedlings and dirt and we're going to be getting beds ready in the next couple weeks for our spring greens and peas and radishes! We ordered the first batch meat chickens, and they will hopefully be ready for summer shares maybe even earlier! We got a pig last week, and the girls named it Biscuit! :)

We got an update from Stacy this month, so I'll include that here!

Hello from Alabama!!

We really miss you all! It’s hard to believe that it’s been 4 months since we left…

We (finally!) found a house about 20 mins north of Birmingham in a smaller town called Gardendale. The house is about 6 mins from the temple where Mason is working so it will be very convenient, yet it’s also more towards the outskirts of town which fits us all quite well. There’s no way we could go straight from the farm right to the city!

We’re still waiting to close on that house which is scheduled for Feb 6th… Waiting is, indeed, the hardest part…

In the meantime, we’ve been able to rent a house month-to-month. The upside is that it sits off of a beautiful lake!  The downside, though, is that it didn’t come with a boat. If only!! ? Oh and it’s over an hour from Mason’s job and we only have one car right now… so yeah… it’s been real… ?

But, while we do miss the farm a lot (the kids didn’t remember eating white eggs before!) we think we’re going to be happy here, especially once we can get moved into our house and get settled… and get a garden going… and get some chickens again, too!

You can take the girl out of the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the girl… ?‍?

The plus side is that it seems to rain just about every week so watering the garden won’t be such an issue; we might have to worry more about overwatering, actually!

The kids are doing well and are slowly making new friends. Zoey is doing well too and has been both our comic relief and grounding influence throughout everything… We must admit though that she is getting a little on the chubby side since she’s no longer running alongside the 4-wheeler or chasing onions or whatever random things she would bring us to toss to her… ? We hope it’s preparing her well for life in suburbia so she won’t be able to jump a 6 ft fence anymore like she used to do.

Lots of love from all of us! If you find yourself even remotely close to AL, please let us know!

❤️ Mason, Stacey, the kids, and Zoey

We look forward to seeing you all this coming week!
