The CSA begins!

We are excited to be starting the vegetable box delivery next week. We took a lot of time to think carefully about pushing all the deliveries back one week, because the weather was trending toward cool and wet conditions. This means our products are not sizing up as quick. We were also slightly late getting things planted this year, mostly because of conditions mentioned.

So, in order to stay on schedule, some of the items are a little slimmer that we would like. We appreciate your understanding!

You may notice that there are a few price increases this year. All of our supplies are more expensive, plastic bags, irrigation lines, soil amendments, seeds, and shipping costs. So, unfortunately that is having an affect on how we are pricing our produce. We have heard from other farmers around the region, and the agreement is that supply prices are going up 10%-20%. We also increased our delivery fee from $4 each, to $5 each this year. This was before gas prices doubled. If you are considering switching to delivery because of gas prices, just let us know at anytime.

A couple of notes about the items. The butterhead lettuce will be either a red or a green head. They are both the same, just a different variety.  The green garlic is just young fresh tender garlic, picked before it makes bulbs, or individual cloves. You can chop it up and use it like garlic. I put some in our lentil soup this week because all the garlic from last year was dried up.

We lost two of our workers this year, so we are struggling a little bit with the workload. If you know of anyone who would be interested in working in exchange for a vegetable box, please send them our way.

We are having a wonderful spring, hunting for mushrooms, bird watching and looking for wildflowers in the woods. Our trail cam has been catching mostly deer and raccoons this season, but there were some snaps of coyotes. We hear them regularly at night on the farm. We hope they are keep the deer and other pests in check.

The sheep are doing well. We have a good selection of lamb products currently. You can add them as extras to your box. They are frozen, and we pack them in the bottom of your box in an insulated envelope and ice packs.

Thanks again for joining us on this adventure,

Brigid and Ross
