Farm Happenings for Week of July 29, 2020

Posted on July 25th, 2020 by Naomi Martz

New potatoes are here!  We are so excited to share our first harvest of Pemberton Potatoes for you, as well as some truly beautiful beets just waiting to be plucked out of the ground.  We've been hustling to get the brussel sprouts and leeks weeded, and are crossing our fingers that the onions size up despite the cold weather we had in June.  The green beans are flowering, which means they are just around the corner.  Keisha (our resident farm dog) and Archie (who comes to work with Kate on her workdays in the field) were busy this week keeping bears away from the field, as the bears start to think about food sources for the months ahead.  We've put up an electric fence around their favourite snacks (carrots and parsnips) to keep the bears out overnight.   Plus, the dogs have been staying energized by dunking in the pond and in the river whenever they get too hot.

So that's this week's farm report!  Things are growing, your farmers are doing their best to stay on top of everything in the heat (and keep from overheating themselves), and we hope you are enjoying the summer harvest so far.
