Farm Happenings for first week of July, 2020

Posted on June 26th, 2020 by Naomi Martz

What's new at the farm?  We are excited to kick off the main season CSA!

The whole crew has been putting in great efforts to look after our future food crops (we got the potatoes hilled, the brussel sprouts cultivated, and the squash looked after) along with making sure we have ample greens and tasty veggies for your shares this coming week.  We'll be honest...June has been cold.  And wet.  A real June-uary, as you've likely noticed.

The sweater weather has made for extra delicious salads, and the broccoli is loving it.  However, it has delayed a few of our main crops by a good week or two.  So we will have to be extra patient for zucchinis and carrots and tomatoes this year, and we appreciate your understanding that there might be slightly fewer items in your first week's share than anticipated.  It's all part of eating with the seasons, and as your farmers we assure you that we are doing our absolute best to coax the veggies out of their spring dampness and leap into summertime.

As many of our returning farmshare members know, we will be sure to load up your weekly share more heavily in the periods of abundance to balance out a leaner start to the harvest season.   All things considered, we think you'll be pretty darn happy with how fresh this veggie selection is.

On a sidenote, the horses Duke and Prince have been loving the green grass to fuel up for their workdays.  They are keeping the pasture nicely mowed with their munching.  I guess it's not just humans who love to "eat their greens".   Yum!

As always, thank you for trusting us to grow for you and for joining our farm-ily!
