Farm Happenings for Week of June 3rd

Posted on June 1st, 2019 by Sarah Rider

The CSA season is off and running! The harvest list is expanding and changing by the day as the crops are coming in strong. This week we'll see beets, kohlrabi, maybe the first of the napa cabbage and basil.

In the field, the 2nd round of tomatoes went in the ground that should produce well into the fall, while the first planting of tomatoes are growing inches per day. Really everything is growing in amazing leaps on these long, sunny, hot days.

It seems strange that the next big planting is the winter squash....a crop to feed us in the snowy winter months when we haven't even officially started summer.

The first batch of meat chickens went to the butcher, so we'll have our own organic, pasture-raised chicken back in stock on Tuesday. If you have a delivered share and would like to order chicken (or any of our meat) the best way to do so is through our online store. Unfortunately, we haven't found an easy way to handle meat through Harvie just yet.

Speaking of animals....the new hens are starting to increase production, so we have pullet (small) eggs for sale again! These you can order through the online store or add as an extra to your Harvie share.

The farm stand will be open for purchasing extras or meat in person Tues & Fri 2 - 6 pm and Saturday 8 - noon.

U-pick Update: We will be harvesting some strawberries & peas for shares this week, but more can be picked additionally.

Standard U-pick hours:

  • Tuesday through Friday: daylight hours
  • Saturday: sun-up to noon
