Farm Happenings for week of May 27th - START of CSA!

Posted on May 24th, 2019 by Sarah Rider

Welcome!

We are excited to get harvesting for the 2019 CSA season. So far the spring has been a pretty good one for getting crops in. The fields are full, the seedling greenhouse empty, and the fruits are ripening. Our crew this season is awesome and has given us a revived hope that maybe we can pull off another season. And, we're equally hopeful about the changes we have made to the CSA. By offering various share sizes and the ability to customize, we are able to reach more members and are optimistic it will be a win-win for members and farmers.

For those of you picking up your share on-farm, we'll now be doing CSA pickup in the farm stand. Since the routine is slightly different, we'll also have the farm stand staffed during pickup hours to help.

A few general reminders of how this all works....please double check your pickup location and time in this email. If something is not right, let us know immediately.

You should also see a preview of your share. You can do nothing and your share will be packed as-is OR you can easily swap items it/out of your box in the next 36 hours. It is also super easy to add extra items to your box. Your credit card on file will be charged automatically.

Speaking of payments.....

Here is a refresher if you opted for the payment plan at sign up:

  • You paid 25% at the time of signing up
  • Another 25% will be automatically billed to your credit card at the start of harvest season (ie this week)
  • The remaining 50% is spread out over each week of the harvest season (26 weeks) and is automatically charged to your credit card weekly

If you would rather pay off your balance in one lump or some other installment, we'll have to do that from our end. Just email us the amount you would like us to charge your card on file, or mail a check.

U-pick crops -  Farm will be open for u-pick starting Saturday, May 25th.

Standard U-pick hours:

  • Tuesday through Friday: daylight hours
  • Saturday: sun-up to noon
  • ***STRAWBERRY exception*** Since berries are such a short season and a fickle crop depending on the weather, during berry season members are welcome to come any daylight hours 7 days a week.

The crop list and limits fluctuate through the week. Please visit the u-pick board in the farm stand to confirm limits, etc.  U-pick is exlcusively for CSA members and limits are per share, not person picking. Please leave your dogs at home.

Stawberries - limit 1 quart

Peas (snow/sugar snap) - limit 1 pint

Herbs - chives, oregano, thyme, marjoram
