Farm Happenings for July 16, 2019

Posted on July 12th, 2019 by Sarah Rider

Melon harvest is underway! The first variety, 'Mini Love' is the earliest watermelon that we have this year. Mini Love melons are personal-sized & extra sweet! It depends who you ask on the farm, but they are a favorite to harvest by much of the crew. (Of course, it helps that a few melons must be tested for ripeness prior to harvest!)

Visit the CSA Member Facebook page to check out a video of the melon harvest. There are two other varieties that will ripen just following Mini Love, so chances are good that you'll see a few of these in your share this summer!

You'll find cherry tomatoes on the extras list this week. Quantities will be limited for the first couple of weeks. The pints of cherry tomatoes are mixed, so you'll receive a sampling of the varieties we grow: Sungold (orange, very sweet), Blush (yellow w/ red stripes), Black Cherry (dark purple, heirloom flavor), Montesino (red 'grape' salad tomato), Yellow Pear (mild flavor, bright yellow), & Matt's Wild (small red, heirloom). Each pint may or may not include any of these varieties. The Sungolds are most abundant, so you'll primarily see these for now.

If you have a delivered share and would like to order chicken or beef, the best way to do so is through our online store
