Farm Happenings for August 20, 2020

Posted on August 17th, 2020 by Kelly Peters

We’ve been blessed with some beautiful sunsets lately. This photo is from yesterday evening sunset here at the farm.
Wildfires, pollution and stagnant air sure do make for beautiful sunsets! I guess you could call that a silver lining.  It forces us to see the beauty in things even when the going gets tough.  We’ve been really trying to focus on positivity lately. Summertime can be  Overwhelming for farmers. It seems like everything is ripe all at the same time and needs to be harvested multiple times a week. For instance summer squash and cucumbers need to be harvested 3 times a week, Tomatoes 2 times a week, green beans two to 3 times a week. It doesn’t leave much time for doing anything else around the farm!  But the beauty in it all is that there’s so much variety and abundance that we get to enjoy and to share with our members!

Now that we have more produce available, we will be starting the farmers market again!  To start out we will be sharing a booth with So Long Cookie. So for right now, we will keep the downtown pick up at the feral Public House From 1-4 pm. There’s more shade to keep produce cool and space for the CSA boxes.

another new item this week is fresh plums! Our neighbor down the road has brought us some Italian Plums.  They’re sweet and earthy, a bit more jammy than juicy.  Excellent to eat fresh or use for cooking/dehydrating/preserves.

As a reminder, you can update your preferences in your Harvie profile if you feel like you’re getting too much of one type of produce.  And you can always customize your share before Wednesday at 6 AM and swap items :)

We hope everyone is enjoying the bounty! And we thank you so much for supporting your local food system!

Your farmers,

Kelly & Patrick
