ON THE FARM

It's been a great week.  We took Monday off, which is sortof a miracle when you are a market gardener.  We sped through all the harvest, wash, pack, etc. and even managed to make a serious dent in the garlic planting.

The gloomy weather brought us some spectacular skies and even better harvests, and this coming SATURDAY OCTOBER 14TH from 10:00-2:00 we are part of Eat Local Huron's farm crawl event.

We hope you'll join us and see in person where your food comes from.  Bring your questions, but perhaps even more importantly: BRING YOUR BOOTS!  Mudseason on the farm is no joke.

Here's the details for the whole day below:

Firmly Rooted: 10am – 2pm

84400 Currie Line, Belgrave, ON

Firmly Rooted is hosting a very special day – an open doors and artist collective! Come meet Tamara & Brian for a guided farm tour, browse artist pop up booths, enjoy a carrot tasting, wander through the garlic & vegetable market, and participate in a houseplant propagation or microgreen growing workshop. What a wonderful way to expand your own gardening knowledge and meet the farmers who grow our delicious food!

Meeting Place Organic Farm: 10am – 4pm

86016 Creek Line RR1, Lucknow, ON

Enjoy the many activities the McQuail family have been preparing for us! Horse Drawn wagon rides, scavenger hunts, face-painting, colouring sheets and vendor pop-ups featuring Brod Bread & Pastry, Donnybrook Flower Farm, Green Street Leather and Kelly Stevenson. Fresh pressed apple cider, fresh picked apples and sausage on a bun will be on hand when you’ll inevitably need to refuel after this action-packed day on the farm!

Capella Meadows: 1pm – 5pm

44053 Moncrieff Rd, Brussels, ON

Have you ever wanted to meet the happy goats behind Capella Meadows quality artisan cheese? Please join Edda & Erik as they introduce us to their herd, sample their varieties of cheeses, take part in a farm quiz, shop the vegetable stand, hitch on to an afternoon hayride (weather permitting, 4pm!) and watch a goat-milking demonstration!

Cedarvilla Angus Farms: 1pm – 5pm

37550 Zurich Hensall Rd, Zurich, ON

The Klopp family is thrilled to welcome us all to their open farm day! A fifth and sixth generation father and son farming operation, Cedarvilla raises black angus cattle, chickens, and pigs, and treat their livestock with the utmost care. Don’t miss this opportunity to come meet some of the Klopp family, stroll around the farm for a self-guided tour, enjoy delicious baked goods for sale, and of course CVA pork, beef and whole chickens will all be on hand for sale. Pop up vendors include Bayfield Maple and Making Scents with Monica!

That's all for now and happy eating until next time,

Tamara
