IMPORTANT LOCATION CHANGES:

Those picking up in Bayfield will now pick up at Shopbike coffee as the Farmers market is closed for the season.

Those picking up at 58 Market street will now pick up at 49 Nelson Street West as 58 Market street is currently for sale.

COOLER BAGS:

Please return your cooler bags and clips to your pick up location each week. If you are a person who has a hard time remembering this sort of thing (I am!), please bring extra bags to your pick up location, repack your share, and leave our bags there.

Thanks so much and please read on to hear what's happening on the farm, and what new veggies are coming available.

ON THE FARM

We harvested all of the sweet potatoes.  Some of them are a little silly looking (Mary found a poop emoji shaped one) but are abundant and promise to be delicous once cured.  We cure them at nearly 30 degrees celcius for a couple of weeks until the skin thickens and the flesh sweetens.  Look for them in shares the end of the month, or beginning of November.  Until then eat all of the squash!

The next big focus is garlic planting and we are hurrying to get the beds prepared, then covered with silage tarps as the next handful of days promise to be incredibly wet.  If we can cover the beds ahead of time, then we can plant as soon as the rain stops instead of waiting for things to dry out afterwards.

Along with the garlic we'll try to plant our last few beds of baby greens and herbs in greenhouses.  These plantings will sprout, then hibernate until the days begin to lengthen once more in February.  These will be the first harvests of 2024 which will go into our April farm share boxes.

The key with market farming is to always be thinking one or two seasons ahead.

What's in the Box?

We'll be sending out the last of our pie pumpkins and delicata squash this week and next so get your fill now!

The cauliflower and broccoli are in their glory, but what I would really like is to turn your attention to rainbow swiss chard.  It always shines this time of year against the moody skies, and it really is divine in any number of fall recipes.  Here are two of my favorites:

That's all for now, happy eating until next time!
