Farm Happening September 28, 2023 - Summer Share Final Week!

Posted on September 29th, 2023 by Tamara McMullen

We’re here; we’ve made it to the end of the summer share, and what a season it’s been!

We’ve shared 18 weeks of beautiful vegetables, those gifts of the earth (and farmers).  We’ve enjoyed the meals of asparagus and snap peas, eagerly awaited the first carrots, were blown away by majestic cauliflower heads, and then feasted on delicately grilled baby zucchinis.  We were buried in a flood of tomatoes, climbed out, and now can barely believe tomatoes season is coming to an end.

On the farm we enjoyed regular rain, and missed all the big storms that flooded so many of our neighbours.  We didn’t lose any crops to weeds or pests (except for cucumbers and we had them for 9 weeks).  We found lots of little friends that were helping us in the background, including 1 million toads and frogs, praying mantis’s (manti?), snakes, salamanders, and the killdeer that hatched two rounds of eggs in the exact same nest in the middle of a lettuce field.   We grew used to her shrill cries, and she eventually, mostly, grew used to our presence.

The kids grew and became even more of the amazing humans they’ve been hinting at all along.  Friendships amongst our staff of awesome farmers grew, and that was a joy to behold.

My beautiful little sister got married here and I got to share the magic of this farm with my loved ones and hers.

It’s been the best year yet.  And it’s not over.  We hope you’ll join us in person for a farm crawl here on October 14th from 10-2 (more details to come), and we hope you'll take part in the winter share, but whether or not that's in the cards, thank you for being here for this part of the journey.

We are grateful.

We are blessed.

We are your farmers.

Happy almost thanksgiving, and happy eating until next time.
