Summer Meals and Snakes Galore

It's the Final Week of the Spring Farm Share!

Administrative Details

We still have a handful of spaces available in the summer share.  You can sign up here: https://www.harvie.farm/farm/firmly-rooted-farm/signup

We've had a few dozen eggs go missing over the past week so we are moving to packing the eggs directly into the black bags.  Hopefully that solves the problem.

How do you feel about the reusable bags?  Let me know!  firmlyrootedfarm@gmail.com

What’s in the Box

We are repeat for the good stuff that makes up spring: hardy greens, hardy herbs, radishes, turnips, rhubarb and asparagus.

Can someone please tell you favorite rhubarb things?  I should probably stop eating so much crumble.  Or should I?

A lovely friend of mine makes Rhubarb-aid and freezes it for winter, I may just give it a try:

On the Farm

I am DELIGHTED with our progress.

This week amongst all the weeding, and trellising, and harvesting, we also managed to plant our first round of zucchini, 3/4 of our winter squash, all of our watermelons (including the giant ones that Jack and Brian are growing), eggplant, and with any luck the peppers will go in before the end of the day.

It makes me think of summer BBQ's and smokey delicious meals to come.

I'm also DELIGHTED at all the creatures that are waking up on the farm.  You may recall the hibernaculum we had constructed last year (it's a overwintering habitat for snakes); I can't say for certain but I feel like there are a lot more snakes around!  I'm forever saving them from interested cats and relocating them to safer spaces.  Fingers crossed between them and the cats we'll have a good handle on the rodent population come fall.

Happy eating until next time!
