Farm Happenings for October 1, 2020

Posted on September 24th, 2020 by Tamara McMullen

Can you believe that there are only 2 more CSA pick up's for the summer season? We wrap up the week prior to Thanksgiving Monday.

We arrived at the fall equinox on Tuesday, and this morning Jack excitedly called me over to the enormous maple tree on the farm so we could watch the first leaves tumble down together.  Between the falling leaves and the very hard frost we had last Friday night, it is clear that the end of summer has arrived.

We're are embracing the change, enjoying our first fires in the woodstove, and simmering big pots of soup.  We've also been busy cleaning onions for storage, planting more spinach, lettuce, and other greens to see us through a long hard winter, weeding the entire farm for the (hopefully) last time, and getting ready for our last round of cover crop seeding.  We're also prepping to plant our garlic.  We've decided to put in 3,000 row ft of seed this year, which will be our biggest planting yet.

There's only a few weeks left to sign up for the winter CSA.  Wondering what will be available in our winter shares?   Here's a sampling:
