Farm Happenings for September 3, 2020

Posted on August 29th, 2020 by Tamara McMullen

Good morning veggie lovers,

The end of August is this farmers finish line.  Not because the work stops (it doesn’t), but because it feels less overwhelming.  The weeds slow down in their previously furious race for world domination, so does the ripening of the crops and you can no longer watch the zucchini turn into baseball bats overnight.  There are less new things to plant and we start to bid farewell to the 30-degree days, and the endless harvests of tomatoes.  There are so many tomatoes in August; in my greenhouses, in my kitchen, in my dreams.

I’m ready to welcome the fall and I can see the first glimpses of it.  The broccoli is heading, the leeks are glorious, and the acorn squash sport a bright splash of yellow.  It’s coming guys, get your favorite soup recipes dusted off.

Speaking of soup, and other winter foods, thanks to everyone who has signed up for our fall and winter share.  It’s going to be 10 glorious weeks of frost sweetened root veggies and greens.  If you are wondering what vegetables to expect, here is the summary:
