Hi Everyone!

This is Joseph Fox, from Green Ridge Acres.  I hope this find you all healthy.  This is a saying "you are what you eat."  If we eat healthy and get our daily exercise we are more likely to be healthy.

You haven't heard from us in a while.  It is a busy time of the year on our dairy farm.  We milk 40 cows and raise 30 heifers, all certified organic.

We survived tropical storm Fred, although some of our vegetables did not.  After dumping 5 1/4 inches in 2 days, then high heat and humidity, some of our spinach rotted at the base of the plant, killing over half of one planting and a good portion of two more plantings.  Some carrots rotted in the ground; Maybe about 5-10% of our carrots.  I thought the beans were dead but they shot new shoots out of their stems.  We still got a yield hit on them though!

The red beets didn't seem to care about wet feet.  They didn't miss a beat.

We now have more beans coming again.  The spinach is just starting to yield more again and we will have less carrots for this winter.

I want to plant cover crops in the produce patch as the vegetables get done this fall.  That helps cover the soil for the winter and is food for the microbes in the soil.  Healthy soils grow healthy nutrient-dense crops that taste good!  This is our goal!

Talk to you all later!
