Hello Everyone

Farm Updates:  We have some exciting new seasonal crops in the boxes starting this week.  While kale will be gone after this week, peas are done, and our Spring Onions are being pulled this week to cure, there's a lot of new stuff on the horizon.  Green beans, kakao tomatoes, and some peppers are just starting.  I've even spotted a handful or ripe dry-farmed Early Girls too.  We also have all of our first round of potatoes in now (red- "Amethyst", yellow "Golden Globe", and purple "Purple Majesty".  A bit late for the 4th of July, but they do make a lovely and patriotic batch of roasted potatoes or fries.

Meet the Team: We hope to keep introducing you to members of the Fifth Crow team as the season goes on.  Right now there are about 30 of us plus 3 owners and their families.

Sam Thomas is one of our full time tractor operators or "tractoristas".  He arrived in the late Spring of 2020 when we were in full lock down mode.  What a time to move to a new place.  He's weathered various quarantines, the fires and evacuation, and some pretty topsy turvy years of markets alongside us.  Sam grew up working on small farms and sugaring in New England. He attended the University of Vermont to study Ecological Agriculture. After a few years working in the dairies, orchards and fields of Vermont his curiosity for sustainable vegetable and berry cropping systems brought him to California at the beginning of 2020. Now in the midst of his third growing season in Pescadero, Sam tends to the fields and the machines at Fifth Crow Farm full time. When he’s not at work he’s exploring the redwoods on his bike and enjoying the diverse food cultures of the bay area.
