Farm News for June 10, 2021

Posted on June 5th, 2021 by Teresa Kurtak

Hello everyone. My e-mail this week will be a bit more brief as we are currently taking a long weekend to visit my family farm up in Washington (just like many of you, we haven't seen my parents for over a year).  The kids are just glowing to be able to give Grandma and Grandpa hugs.

Last year, after many years of delivering in the afternoons, we surveyed all of you and received the resounding reply that you'd prefer your boxes arrive in the morning.  So that is what we are doing. REMINDER- what with the summer heat, we suggest you try to pick you boxes up as early as you can after the pick up window has started

We finally have a few more items to add to boxes!  Green cabbages are ready and we have a bumper round of red radishes, so more of those to go around.  We're going to harvest our first bed of carrots, though they'll likely be on the smallish side.  The potatoes are now over knee high and we're starting to see little ping pong ball sized tubers.  Mmmmm can't wait for dilled new potatoes (one of my family's seasonal pleasures).

Looking for some delicious and beautiful ways to use an abundance of strawberries?  Fellow CSA member and avid baker, George suggests you try this recipe that they tried last week.

Instead of the strawberry jam mentioned he used strawberry compote.

Happy eating!!

Teresa and the crew.

PS We thought we'd found a CSA Manager, but sadly, she changed her mind.  So keep your ears peeled for a good candidate.  We're still looking...
