Farm Happenings for September 24, 2020

Posted on September 21st, 2020 by Teresa Kurtak

We're in the final 10 countdown for this CSA season!  Only 9 weeks left... Don't worry we'll let you know as soon as we set up registration for next season.  A couple notes about products this week:

Seckel Pears (pictured above)- We have a number of Seckel pear trees and the fruit is incredibly delicious.  Little sugar lumps that taste as sweet as canned pears when ripe without being soaked in sugar syrup.  That said they are extremely susceptible to pear scab (a fungus).  We haven't managed to spray (with organic sprays ofcourse ;) ) the past few years and sadly the fruit is pretty ugly.  We are going to pick you all the best and prettiest, but it will have surface damage.  It's harmless, just ugly

Sweet Corn- there's a little left and it's at that mature, less sweet and starchier stage.  I didn't put it in the boxes, just offering it for those that know and like it that way (like me).

We're pulling in much of the winter squash this week- another milestone of the season.  Hopefully we can start putting them into CSA boxes next week.
