Farm Happenings for August 29, 2020

Posted on August 27th, 2020 by Barbara Amezcua

Hello Weekend CSA pick up members.

Pandemic... Kids at home 24-7..  2 weekends ago our 3 year old had to be flown via helicopter to Stanford Children's and spent 2 nights in the hospital after a fall.  (she's fine thank goodness). Now a massive wildfire.. #2020  When will this year let up!

We are bit discombobulated after a week of living out of our car (3 days of camping and then 3 days at former CSA Site host's guest house - Thank you so much Betsy Chung and family!!!)  Yesterday we got permission to go to the farm for care for crops and animals with a limited list of crew and today we were able to get more people on that list today.  Our team are scattered in hotels and with family or friends all over the greater Bay area, so this things are a bit of a mess, but looks like we will also be able to enter tomorrow and onwards. We are going to do our best to salvage the abundance of crops we've been unable to pick for the last week (which are alive thanks to our heroic irrigation manager Sergio who stayed in Pescadero and kept everything watered).

The short of it.. we are picking and packing CSA boxes for you all this weekend, but the customization period is short.  I've extended the cutoff till 10am to give you a little more time.  Thank you in advance for your patience and thanks to all of you for your well wishes and prayers.  They worked ;)!  The farm is fine and everyone in the know seems very confident that the fire and smoke we still see burning is totally under control and isn't a threat.  Yay!  We are so so so very lucky and grateful for this amazing community we are a part of and hoping to return home to sleep soon.  Stay safe and watch out for all that nasty smoke.
