Stocking up

Posted on October 21st, 2021 by Heather Coffey

You made it! This is our last week of the summer/fall weekly bags, thank you so much for eating with us this season. Some of you are already set up to enjoy tasty veggies on a monthly basis starting in two weeks, for others we'll see you again next spring. Either way we've got a number of bumper crops and this is a great week to stock up on fall treats. Beans and red peppers abound, we're crossing our fingers for a frost this weekend to sweeten up our carrots, we have a round of celery and a different squash to try (Autumn Frost, very similar to last year's Kojinut). We've got the first round of Kalettes going out, and as many Brussels as you can eat. Lovely beet bunches of red and gold, and the likely the last hurrah of summer crops like eggplant, sweet peppers, tomatillos, and hot peppers. Classic storage items like potatoes, onions, sweet potatoes, radishes, napa cabbages... I've tried to list a bit of all we've got!

A great big shout out to our core full time crew working the fields five or six days a week this summer. From left to right we have Stephanie, Marina, Joanna, Norma and Heather They bring the joy into growing veggies, and the flavour onto our plates.

Here's to another great season with an amazing crew, volunteer team, and community of eaters to keep us growing to feed you year round :)
