It takes a team

Just in case you're wondering why you customize over the weekend to get your veggies on Wednesdays, it is because we are busy harvesting and packing Monday and Tuesday so we can hit the road Wednesday with all the fresh goodies. We pack up lots of bags on Tuesday afternoons, so we have extra veggie volunteers who come to help us. Left to right here are Norma, Joanna's kids (one missing here!), Marina, Becky, Stephanie, Irene, Kelly, Diane, Joanna and photographer Heather. We set up all the veggies in a row, then grab a label and walk down the line putting each item in the crate. We have a checker who ensures everything listed is in the create (and doubles if you ordered more than one)! Then we sticker a bag, and the packers tuck it all in carefully. Finally the bins get labelled and wheeled into the fridge where they are all carefully towered up (to the ceiling) in exactly the reverse of the order they all need to come out in on Wednesday. It really takes a team to get all the veggies into each customized bag, and we've found the perfect team to make it all happen. We also have a couple Thursday afternoon volunteers Cathy and Andreane who help us in the fields. Thank goodness for veggie volunteers, we are so grateful for all your wonderful help.

We've got lots of bulk veggies to come in from the fields over the next couple of months - if any of you are interested in helping on a Thursday or Saturday afternoon 1:30-5ish let me know and I'll add you to our email list when we're putting together a few work parties to haul in all the good food :) It's a fun way to learn about how the veggies grow, meet the crew, and we always send our volunteers home with veggies! First up are onions, processing garlic, potatoes, and squashes. Later will be sweet potatoes, and once they size up our carrots usually come in October/November. Who's up for a farm adventure?
